Happy Independence Day Botswana 🇧🇼

Before independence, Botswana was the world's second poorest country. Today, it's an upper middle-income economy.

It had a low literacy rate with only 11 graduates and no university. Citizens contributed to build a university with the second biggest library in Africa

Villages contributed cattle to build primary and secondary schools.

The former administrative capital, Mahikeng was absorbed into South Africa.

Gaborone was chosen though it was a cattle post for the Batlokwa people, and built from scratch

Botswana offers free healthcare and education up to tertiary, with tertiary students receiving a monthly allowance of $140.

Best-performing students go overseas on scholarships. Primary, Junior and Senior Students receive free food and after school meals for rural area students

Botswana is a long continuous democracy, never had a coup, or civil war. It used traditional customary law and rule with modern democratic practices and established the House of Chiefs, which acts as custodian of cultural values and norms and advises parliament and cabinet.

Botswana is among the most peaceful countries in Africa with a low crime rate and Africa's best Police service.

Botswana had only 14 Kilometers of tared road in Lobatse made for the 1947 Queen'ss visit, but today boasts a total of over 25,000km of paved roads.
